""Design in art, is a recognition of the relation between various things, various elements in the creative flux. You can't invent a design. You recognize it, in the fourth dimension. That is, with your blood and your bones, as well as with your eyes."
D. H. Lawrence

Nudging culture into new patterns through the redesign of the workplace

Everybody has an innate understanding of physical space as a significant component of working life and is inclined to engage in the possibilities afforded by changing it. It feels personal and relevant where strategy can seem abstract and threatening. Working together around redesigning the workplace can often be a way into discussions on organisational change where a direct approach talking about culture and transformation makes people feel vulnerable.

Current research confirms that the active and continued participation of inhabitants of a space throughout its design process and beyond is critical to success. Working in a triangular relationship - involving users, designers and planners - we use narrative, visualisation, observation and other techniques which help people form personal and shared ambitions for the space in which they work. Through interviews, workshops and events we identify ways in which space design can strengthen cross-discipline working and increase the flows of knowledge and information.

What emerges creates input to the brief for architects, facilities managers and users to support the design of successful integrated workspaces and creates a reference point for those inhabiting the space.
